You're the judge.
A paedophile admits that he abused a 10 year old girl in a most horrible way. During his trial he is on bail conditions which say he must stay in his home.
He then tells you that he is getting married this weekend and wants to spend his wedding night in a hotel.
What do you do?
Do you show him leniency and let him and his new wife enjoy a last night of happiness before his inevitable sentence?
Or do you tell him: Tough, should have thought about that before committing the crime.
I know which side I would come down on - and I suspect most right-thinking members of society would too.
We are well-used to hearing judges and the legal system accused of being soft on crime. In most cases this is completely wrong as their hands are tied by a sentencing framework put in place by politicians - the very people who are the first to criticise them!
In this case Judge Philip Richards seems to be acting on his own discretion.

When a man has admitted a crime such as this, any instinct to treat him with kid gloves should go out of the window. He has committed an appalling crime and does not deserve the kindess showed by Judge Richards.
