bluebirds

Today was one of those days when the newsdesk has so many stories we were presented with options for the front page.
But look deeper than that inside and you will find some gems.
In today's paper, two pages really caught my eye.
One is a great story about blind craftsman Roger Ball who restores wooden boats from his home in Penarth. The pictures of his work are amazing - and his is a truly inspiring story.
The second story which grabbed my attention today was the one about the priest opening a church in a nightclub. This isn't a joke but a serious move to make religion more attractive to a younger age group.

Two cracking stories which, for me, illustrate the different roles we can play in a community, highlighting positive human stories and also giving a platform to different groups and their interesting activities.

After completing today's live paper I accompanied our chief sports writer Terry Phillips to a meeting with Peter Ridsdale and Julian Jenkins at Cardiff City.
The Echo's relationship with the Bluebirds is an important one for both parties - for the paper, because of the importance of the content to the paper, to the club because of the massive audience we have.
It was an entertaining meeting full of footballing anecdotes and great stories - and all in all very helpful in terms of building on what is already a successful partnership.

Today's paper tells how Chief Supt Bob Evans, Cardiff's divisional commander, has been promoted to Acting Assistant Chief Constable and will be leaving this city.
Bob is a tremendous asset to Cardiff and we will miss him. Bob you will remember is the man who cancelled all police leave to help curb Halloween nuisances, the man who policed the big cup finals at the Stadium ensuring they were such a success and the man who oversaw the introduction of the Pact meetings, which are giving local communities a better say in how their areas are being policed.
We wish Bob all the best in his new job.
