last minute drama

Posted by The Echo Editor on November 17, 2006 10:43 AM |

Today was one of those days when the Echo's newslist gets turned upside down at the last minute as reports started to reach us of a really nasty robbery in Rhiwbina.

This came as we had the front page nicely set up with a great picture from last night's Christmas Lights switch-on and big cross-references to tonight's bumper sports night in Cardiff.

Any robbery is nasty but to pick on an elderly couple and then steal the old man's walking stick is absolutely disgraceful and senior police officers were telling us that they were appalled by what they heard.

The city centre was packed for last night's opening of the Winter Wonderland - and it makes for a fantastic sight.

This has now become a huge fixture in the region's calendar and it is wonderful to see the excitement on the faces of youngsters as they walk through the city.

Tonight all eyes turn to sports, whether your choice is the round ball or the rugby ball. Of course this presents its own dilemma for newspapers. Which is the biggest story - the Wales game or Cardiff City.

Which do you think should take tomorrow's back page? Let me know your views.
