Cardiff City's new stadium

Posted by The Echo Editor on November 27, 2006 11:14 AM |

After six years of talking, Cardiff Council bosses have today finally approved the plans for the Bluebirds' new stadium.
What fantastic news - especially as City sit on top of the Championship.
In today's Echo, we reflected on the years of reporting on this story before plumping for the headline 'Bluebirds: A moment of history.'

Looking back in years to come, today may well be seen as the day when Cardiff City finally began the transition into a Premiership club.
It really is that significant.
And, despite what you may hear, for the Echo that is fantastic news.
Success sells and our readers love reading about a winning team.

So today I won't mention the r-word.

Elsewhere in the news today is the announcement in Thailand that the killers of backpacker Katherine Horton will not be executed and a shocking story from Cardiff's playgrounds which will concern every parent. It has emerged that dangerous equipment was left at one of the city's playgrounds for many months before the authority finally managed to move it.
We are by now familiar with the council's money problems but this is one area where common sense simply has to come first. We hope that lessons are learnt.
